If you are searching for a more discreet orthodontic treatment, Invisalign® is the answer! Our experienced dentists provide Invisalign to help straighten your teeth and correct your bite without hiding your smile behind metal brackets and wires. We invite you to call us at 408-266-4690 to learn more about Invisalign orthodontics in San Jose and Morgan Hill, California, and schedule your consultation with Dr. Haleh Karimian, Dr. Kim and Dr. Chang at Almaden Plaza dental care.
Invisalign® is a great choice for our patients who are searching for a more discreet orthodontic treatment option. Rather than using metal brackets and wires like traditional braces, the Invisalign system uses a series of custom-made, computer-generated plastic aligners to straighten your smile. Each set of aligners is designed to make small changes to the alignment of the teeth. As you switch sets of aligners about every two weeks, your teeth will be gradually, gently guided to their proper positions. You will also visit our office on a regular basis during treatment to make certain that your smile is progressing as planned.
In general, Invisalign can be used to treat the same orthodontic issues that are normally treated with braces. Our orthodontist may recommend Invisalign to correct:
- Crowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Gapped and spaced teeth
- Certain problems with the bite, such as an overbite, open bite, underbite, or crossbite
Invisalign Teeth Straightening Treatment Process
You may be somewhat familiar with how the Invisalign® treatment works, but we’d like to take you through each step of the treatment process, from consultation to confident smile. Whether you’re considering treatment for yourself or someone else, knowing more about the entire process can help you be more confident in your decision to choose Invisalign.
From mild cases of misaligned teeth and protruding teeth, to much more difficult orthodontic cases involving serious malocclusion, overbite, or underbite, Invisalign effectively corrects a wide variety of dental conditions. Whether your teeth are widely spaced, overly crowded or somewhere in between, Invisalign has an affordable teeth straightening option for you.
If you take a look at our Actual Results section, you’ll find relevant before-and-after pictures of some real Invisalign patients. You’ll see for yourself the visible improvements – but the more important aspect is that correcting orthodontic issues can potentially have positive benefits for your overall health.
We’re also continually making new advancements in our products and treatment process for even better clinical results. The addition of Precision Cuts allows our aligners to now accommodate the use of elastics. As a result, more severe bite issues can be corrected effectively with Invisalign.
Here are some of the common conditions currently treated with Invisalign; if there is a specific issue that you do not see addressed here, please contact your Invisalign Provider for more information and to see if Invisalign is right for you.
This occurs with abnormal continued growth of the jaw bone. When teeth are missing, this can also be caused by the surrounding teeth shifting due to extra space. Spacing issues between teeth can lead to gum problems (due to lack of protection by the teeth), periodontal pockets and increased risk of periodontal disease.
OVERLY CROWDED TEETH
This occurs when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can get worse over time. This crowding can lead to plaque accumulation, tooth decay and an increased chance of gum disease.
CROSSBITEThis occurs when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. This can lead to abnormal tooth wear and chipping, and periodontal problems including gum disease and bone loss.
UNDERBITEThis occurs when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. It’s usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused by missing upper teeth. This can prevent the normal function of front teeth or molars, which can lead to tooth wear. It can also cause painful jaw and joint problems.
OVERBITEWhat people commonly refer to as an “overbite” is known to dental professionals as “overjet”. It occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. It’s typically caused by genetics, bad oral habits, or overdevelopment of the bone that supports the teeth. This can lead to gum disease and chipped or fractured front teeth.
During your initial visit, we will determine whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign. This treatment is often a good choice for adult patients and others who are interested in a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment. In addition to being discreet, Invisalign aligners are also very comfortable because they are custom made from smooth, thin plastic. The aligners are removable as well, which allows you to easily remove them as needed in order to eat, brush, and floss. We welcome you to call or visit us today to learn more about Invisalign.
